The lush and rugged island of Grenada, known affectionately as the ‘Spice Island’, is a wonderful choice if you want to enjoy spectacular beaches, picturesque towns and dramatic mountain scenery.

The charming capital of St George’s, said to be one of the prettiest in all the Caribbean islands, frames the horseshoe shaped harbour known as Carenage, while pastel coloured Creole houses, red rooftops and winding streets nestle in a backdrop of green hills. Along the beautiful coast lies a fringe of restful golden beaches, most famous of which is Grand Anse, an exquisite curve of white beach fronted by calm turquoise waters and teeming reefs and home to the Spice Island Beach resort.
The west coast of Grenada is edged by one long offshore reef and experienced divers will relish the diving opportunities including the 600ft wreck of the Bianca C lodged here.

A visit to one of the age-old spice plantations growing nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and ginger is a must. A tour of the Dougaldston Spice Estate in Gouyave, which still produces the bulk of Grenada’s spices, gives you the opportunity to see traditional preparation of spices and to sample some in their unprocessed form.

The drive to Grand Etang Forest Reserve is spectacular and once you are there amidst the giant mahogany trees you will find an informative visitor centre, wonderful walking trails as well as longer treks through the rainforest to the shimmering waters of Grand Etang Crater lake.

Grenada is a paradise for sailors and there are many operators based in St George’s or with representation at your hotel. Choose from day sails to sunset cruises in the harbour or join a longer trip to the small, neighbouring island of Carriacou, famed for its deserted beaches and pristine water.
