The Bahamas Holidays

An archipelago of some 700 glorious islands, the first of which is only 50 miles from the Florida coast, Holidays in the Bahamas are made for enjoyment.

The main tourist areas are on New Providence Island, home to the capital, Nassau, and Paradise Island, both of which offer plenty in the way of entertainment. Take a swing on one of the many golf courses, a cruise on one of the elegant yachts dotted about the coves, or a flutter at the roulette tables in one of the island’s exciting casinos. There are wide, beautiful beaches with watersports galore, while one of the most appealing aspects of The Bahamas is the crystal clarity of the water.

Countless reefs and abundant marine life close to the water’s edge provide a paradise for snorkellers and divers, whilst even non-swimmers can enjoy the underwater views on the many glass-bottom boat tours available. If it’s fun in the sun and a lively nightlife you’re after, The Bahamas are for you.

Attractions
Watersports
There are over 1,000 regularly dived sites, including wrecks, coral reefs, spectacular walls and mystical caves. Dive shops are available on all the main islands. Cruises are also very popular, from catamarans to powerboats, often with lunch and snorkelling opportunities included. If you’ve always had a yearning to swim with dolphins, here’s your chance; several operators offer this unique experience which can be booked from your resort.

Golf
One of the official golf destinations of the PGA Tour, The Bahamas has excellent golfing facilities.

Nassau & Paradise Islands

Just 4 miles long and half a mile wide, Paradise Island is connected to New Providence Island by two bridges so the capital city of Nassau and all its facilities are easily accessible. Elegant architecture houses a wide range of shops selling everything from expensive watches to locally made batiks, with duty-free outlets, modern malls and markets to keep even the most ardent shopper happy.

For an insight into the legendary piracy common around the islands during the 18th Century check out the Pirates of Nassau Museum with its interactive exhibits. Also worth a visit is the Pompey Museum which traces the history of slavery, and subsequent process of abolition and emancipation. Both are located in the city of Nassau.

Nightlife
Entertainment is focused mainly on bustling New Providence Island with casinos, cabarets, bars and nightclubs galore.
